EuroSafe

EuroSafe, the European Association for Injury Prevention and Safety Promotion, builds on the foundation of the former ECOSA bringing together the various injury areas and profiling the overall burden of injury and the challenges of safety promotion within national and European policies.

The objectives of the association are:

  • Exchange of information on European and national public health programmes for injury research and prevention;
  • Facilitate partnering for joint proposals for research and action (for EC-funding and other funds);
  • Produce statements on issues relevant to injury prevention and public health policy;
  • Carry out joint projects for research and action on behalf of ECOSA (with partner- and EC-funding).

The major strategic intent of EuroSafe is to create a sustainable and trust working network of experts and expert organizations and to increase co-ordination in the injury field at European level. Though its programmes EuroSafe proves its function as:

  • a professional organization with a mission;
  • a knowledge shop (injury data, good practices, network information);
  • strong in communication (and action-oriented);
  • a bridge between policy makers and practitioners (research/intervention); and
  • a forum for different professionals and disciplines to meet and share
    knowledge to develop effective action plans

It is envisaged to have the EuroSafe organisation developing into a genuine collaborative network (alliance) of dedicated institutes in Europe (Centres of Excellence), all bringing into the organisation their specific competencies, dedicated resources and leadership with regard to one of the priority topics for EuroSafe actions.

EuroSafe’s activities are divided into programmes (permanent) and task forces (exploratory). In addition, the Secretariat provides back office co-ordination and support for all EuroSafe activities:

Programmes

  3. Injury Data: currently led by KfV in Austria as an EC-project in collaboration with Verona ULSS 20 in Italy and CSI

Dr. Rupert Kisser, a well-know researcher of the Kuratorium (KfV), is acting as chairman of EuroSafe.
