2nd European Conference on Injury Prevention and Safety Promotion 2008

9th and 10th October, 2008 in Paris

As injury prevention and safety promotion initiatives gain momentum in Europe, the 2nd European Conference on Injury Prevention and Safety Promotion was a milestone opportunity to take stock of these developments and help move actions at European and national levels forward. This conference helped to facilitate capacity building and the development of national plans for injury prevention and safety promotion by:

  • highlighting evidence of successful injury prevention policies and programmes;
  • sharing examples of comprehensive injury data collection systems and national safety programmes;
  • involving stakeholders from government, civil society, private sector and academia; and
  • providing European and national networks for safety promotion with opportunities for discussion of the best way to move forward.

Conference topics
The topics of the conference were in line with the priority areas identified by both the EC and WHO-Europe and covered all relevant safety domains such as home and leisure, road traffic and violence prevention as well as work safety. The latest state of art in injury prevention was presented in plenary and concurrent break out sessions, involving the respective European networks and EuroSafe Task Forces.
